Image
If you have never seen the television show Euphoria created by Sam Levinson, the main premise is that it follows a group of high schoolers and how they deal with trauma, drugs, sex, and social media. A large part of this show, and what ultimately ties it together is the music. The whole score for the show was created by Labrinth. If you have not had a chance to watch this wonderful rollercoaster of a show, it is most defiantly worth the watch. I have known people to finally give it a try and end up loving it. HBO created a masterpiece with this one. "I'm Tired" written specifically for Euphoria (season 2, episode 4) by Sam Levinson, Labrinth, and Zendaya was released on February 28th, 2022 . The song was also nominated for an Emmy for outstanding original music and lyrics award. Role of The Performer - Frank Sinatra

Image
The American Icon Francis Albert Sinatra was born on December 12th, 1915 in Hoboken, NJ. He began his singing journey as a teenager in 1936 when he got his very first break singing with a group called the "3 Flashes". While he never learned how to read music, he did learn by ear. By 1938 Sinatra had found himself employed at a roadhouse called The Rustic Cabin as a singing waiter. Flash forward to 1942, once his idol, Sinatra found himself wanting to pursue a solo career in hopes to compete with Bing Crosby. One year later on June 1st of 1943, he was signed onto Colombia Records and his song "All or Nothing at All" was re-released and hit #2 on the best selling list where it stayed for 18 weeks. Sinatra was someone that helped make Las Vegas what it is, he first had an appearance there on September 1st, 1951. A year and seven months later, he was signed onto Capitol Records.  On December 12th, 1979 Sinatra celebrated 40 long years in show business by having a huge p

Salsa, It's Not Just For Eating - A Musical Trip to Cuba

Image
Surprisingly, salsa dip was created as early as 1571 which is long before this genre was created, although it does lend its name to the perfect representation of a genre. According to the United States Patent and Trademark Office's website, " The genre had roots in colonial Cuba and mid-20th-century New York. Then, in the late 1960s, as Latin music became ever more popular among New York audiences, Pacheco and his business partner selected the word “salsa” as the genre's convenient, memorable, marketable identifier. The name became part of a much larger strategy that transformed salsa into a national and then international phenomenon." Johnny Pacheco is the man and the musician that brilliantly came up with the phrasing for this genre. Pacheco was born in the Dominican Republic in 1935 and migrated with his family to the United States in 1946. Essentially salsa music is descended from both son  cubano and Afro-Cuban music. Innovations and Evolutions - The Demise of Digital Downloads

Depending on how old you are, you may or may not remember the rush you got when someone gifted you an iTunes gift card. The anxiety of picking out only a certain number of songs,  or do I buy the whole album? Do I buy one song and save the rest for later? The uncertainty of it all was riveting.  On April 28th, 2003, Apple launched their iTunes store. According to an article posted by the Apple website, customers were able to purchase and download music that they wanted to listen to for $0.99 per song. At this time the iTunes store featured over 200,000 songs from many of the major labels. The user could sample up to 30 seconds of a song prior to buying that song to make sure that they wanted to purchase it. Apple launched iTunes just 3 years after the first iPod was released.  While iTunes was not the only way to download music, many sites like Napster, LimeWire, and Kazaa were also extremely popular. These sites appealed to users because often times they had hard to find, unreleased,

Musical Analysis #2 - The Lightning Strike (What If This Storm Ends?)

When you think about the group Snow Patrol, many think of their most popular song Chasing Cars. Today I am gonna talk about their song  The Lightning Strike (What If This Storm Ends?) released on October 24th, 2008 . Snow Patrol is a band based in Glasgow but the members are originally from Northern Ireland and Scotland. They're defined as an alternative rock band that originally started out as an indie band.  Within the first piano note ringing in your ears, you can tell immediately that this song is going to evoke some type of emotion within the listener. During the research into this song, I discovered that this song is not just a stand alone song. This song is actually part of a longer song composed of three songs totaling sixteen minutes and eighteen seconds.  Lyrics- When I discovered what Snow Patrol wrote this song about it struck me as odd because I had interpreted it in a completely different way. According to an article posted by The Telegraph, lyricist Gary Lightbody sa

Musical Analysis #1 - Don't You Worry Child

Image
We are gonna take it back to 2012 for this one. The second this song comes on, just about everyone knows it. The electronic beat in the song makes this the perfect song for a party or a festival, but if you really listen to the words, the song goes a bit deeper than just a great upbeat song to party to. The Stockholm, Sweden natives Swedish House Mafia and John Martin released Don't You Worry Child on September 14th, 2012 .   This is one of those songs that just touches your soul in an unexplainable way. This song makes you feel at peace as they are basically saying that everything will be okay, you don't have to worry so much. I have seen so many videos of this song being played at festivals and watching them makes me seriously feel like I am missing out.  This when this song was released, it essentially broke the internet. According to the United States Billboard Hot 100 this song ranked at #6, on the United States Billboard Dance Club Songs it ranked #1. This is without ment

Hello fellow music lovers! My name is Holly, I am 26 years old and was born and raised in Eagle River, Alaska. I lived in Clarksville, Tennessee for about 4 years due to my husband being stationed there and I absolutely loved it. Clarksville is about 45 minutes away from Nashville, so my husband and I frequented "Music City" fairly often. I am now living in Fairbanks, AK with my husband and our three pets. We have a rambunctious dog named Bailey and two crazy kitties named Luna and Moogli. While Alaska is a beautiful state, we are counting down the days until we can move back down south. I have been an avid music lover for as long as I can remember. I am someone who can listen to just about any genre and find something that I enjoy. I did play the violin in elementary school (I was never very good) I would much rather listen to music than play it. I have been to a few concerts. I have seen Papa Roach, Theory of a Deadman, Brad Paisley, Three Doors Down, Hunter Hayes, 24k Gol
